What are the uses of urea formaldehyde resin?

Urea formaldehyde resin is produced by the condensation of urea and formaldehyde in the presence of a catalyst to form urea-formaldehyde resin, which is then converted into a non-melting, non-soluble resin adhesive—urea-formaldehyde adhesive—through the action of a curing agent or additives. It is the most widely used adhesive in the woodworking industry.

When mixed with fillers, pigments, curing agents, and plasticisers, urea-formaldehyde resin can be processed into urea-formaldehyde compression-moulding powder.

  4. Strong adhesion: The addition of cross-linking agents such as aminosilanes or isocyanates can improve adhesion, making it suitable for metal films and adhesives.

  6. Good resistance to sulphates: When blended with polyurethane, it offers strong resistance to sulphate attack, making it suitable for industrial anti-corrosion coatings.
